ADDAC System: ADDAC312 Gate Pedal

This is an introduction to the ADDAC312 Gate Pedal by ADDAC System, available at Takazudo Modular.

The ADDAC312 Gate Pedal is a foot switch controller that sends a +2.5V gate signal from the floor. Ideal for situations where you need to control recording, playback, or effect switching without using your hands, it extends the operability of your modular system. Equipped with a debounce circuit to suppress unwanted noise and false triggers. Beautifully finished in birch plywood with walnut veneer.

Function and Operability

The ADDAC312 is an external foot pedal designed to simply send a +2.5V gate signal within a Eurorack modular system. Even when the performer's hands are occupied with other modules, it allows trigger signals to be sent from the floor, enabling immediate control of basic operations such as recording, playback, and sequencer start/stop.

It features a debounce circuit that prevents chattering (false detection) when the pedal is pressed. This ensures stable operation even during live performances and improvisation. The responsive switch design allows gate signals to be sent at natural timing without interrupting the flow of your performance.

Connectivity and Compatibility

The output is provided via a 3.5mm mono jack, ensuring compatibility with most Eurorack modules. In particular, among the products we carry, it excels when combined with modules that have gate trigger inputs, such as the ADDAC112 Looper & Granular Processor and the Weston Precision Audio: SE1 Shaped VC Envelope. Despite having a single signal output, it can be applied in countless ways with any module that accepts gate input, expanding possibilities for utility modules, effects, sequencers, logic modules, and more.

Additionally, it runs on a 9V battery, making it usable regardless of the power environment. It does not consume your Eurorack case's power supply, and its ability to function as an independent external pedal for signal control is another notable feature.

Design and Materials

The enclosure is beautifully finished in birch plywood with walnut veneer. Each unit's wood grain is unique, giving it distinctive character that combines industrial functionality with visual and tactile appeal.

At 74mm x 74mm x 25mm and approximately 120g, it is compact and lightweight, making it easy to incorporate into a pedalboard or performance space. Its form blends naturally at your feet, and the handcrafted finish creates a design you'll grow more attached to over time.

About the Battery

The ADDAC312 Gate Pedal is designed to run on a 9V battery (PP3 type), but no battery is included. Please purchase a battery separately and install it by opening the back cover.

The following is an example of a compatible 9V PP3 battery:

To install the battery, you'll need to remove the screws on the bottom. Please refer to the photos below for installation.

Takazudo's Impressions

The reason I stocked the ADDAC312 originated from a conversation at an event about sharing methods for combining modular synths with acoustic instruments like guitar. Why are guitar pedals designed to be operated by foot? The obvious answer is that during performance, both hands are occupied and you can't operate things by hand.

For that reason, guitarists sometimes set up many pedal effects and use them extensively during live performances. So for those who primarily play guitar, when combining a modular system with guitar, it's natural to wonder: can I somehow operate the modular with my feet?

During such a conversation, someone mentioned that ADDAC System had just released something along those lines. Even beyond guitar, whether it's keyboard, flute, kalimba, or anything else, if both hands are occupied, you'll want to operate things from somewhere else. That's why I think the ADDAC312 is a perfect device for those who want to combine acoustic instruments with modular synths.

That said, even if you're not an instrumentalist, there are plenty of applications to consider. Even when performing solely with modular synths, for instance, I (Takazudo) often have the OXI ONE at the center of my performance. But even operating just one or two sequencers, don't you sometimes feel limited by only having two hands?

This isn't about pushing past your limits or anything like that, but wouldn't having even just one pedal-type interface that outputs gates expand your performance possibilities? For example, you could prepare a long envelope using a module like the SE1, trigger it only when you step on the pedal for one-shot sounds, or use it for per-part muting. It's a device that opens up all kinds of possibilities.

As a related product, first let us introduce the ADDAC313 Triple Gate Pedal. This is a similar pedal with three gate outputs, convenient when you need even more gate outputs.

Additionally, the ADDAC304 Manual Gates is also worth checking out. This is not a pedal but rather a module that outputs gates when you press buttons. If you want buttons for sending gates within your Eurorack case rather than at your feet, this module with its eight buttons can be put to great use.

About Long Patch Cables
