More is MORE

OXI ONE MKII further strengthens all the appeal of the previous model. Based on an 8-part sequencer, setting each to Multitrack mode allows control of up to 64 tracks. This enables flexible handling of complex compositions. Enhanced rhythm sequencing, an advanced Song function for high-level control of sequence units, and expanded connectivity make it a powerful tool for music production. With a refined, intuitive workflow and numerous new features, it achieves unprecedented functionality, precision, and creative freedom.

Infinite Tools for Creation

With conditional branching, modulation lanes, and LFOs tied to each sequencer mode, you can create at the speed of inspiration. OXI ONE MK's success as a trusted sequencer is largely due to its continuously improving built-in software. The newly added Repeat Engine, Accumulator, and the new function button FLOW in MKII evolve your musical creation to new dimensions.

Master Tool for Melody and Rhythm

OXI ONE MKII is renowned for its melodic creativity, but it's equally powerful for rhythm. With expanded generative features, you can easily add dynamic variations, unlocking infinite creative possibilities.

Performance Sequencer & Studio Brain

OXI ONE MKII is more than just the centerpiece of your studio. With features optimized for live performance, you have complete control over arrangement and composition. Whether in the studio or on stage, OXI ONE MKII is the ultimate creative partner.

2 CV Inputs for Modular Integration

External CV control is also possible. CV input has been expanded from 1 on the original OXI ONE to 2.

Up to 6 MIDI Ports / 96 Channels (with Split V2)

Using the optional OXI Split V2, you can distribute what would otherwise be a single TRS MIDI output to 6 devices, evolving it into the core of larger-scale setups.

Speaking as someone who primarily plays modular synths, for modular synth players I'd say this is something that can create sequences more advanced and in greater quantity than most sequencers available in the modular world, while also being simple to use.

However, among those who have purchased the original OXI ONE, I'd estimate that more than half aren't using modular synths, but rather other synths, standalone equipment, or enjoying DAW-based music production. For such use cases, if we consider hand-playing and playing back DAW-programmed data as two extremes, OXI ONE sits in the middle — it's a music device with a strong instrumental quality that gives you the feeling of controlling sequences like playing an instrument.

The OXI ONE Sequencer

I personally view the OXI ONE sequencer as something that uses an 8x32 pad layout and implements everything conceivable. This is entirely due to the development prowess of OXI Instruments — or more specifically, the work of a single genius developer named Manuel. These kinds of devices often seem to be created by one extraordinary person. (Reference: Perfect Circuit interview article)

When thinking about what to add to such a device, what do you rely on? For OXI Instruments, it's clearly community feedback. The OXI Instruments Discord server has over 2,000 participants, and what's remarkable is that they systematically respond to feedback and opinions received there.

During a conversation about incoming stock, I once heard that they compile opinions from Discord discussions into a Google spreadsheet and address them one by one. This is needless to say not something easily done, even as part of one's job. OXI ONE's reputation has grown significantly, and that's undoubtedly the result of such accumulated improvements.

While the hardware interface might look like "just a few more buttons compared to the original" at first glance, I'm confident that those changes reflect the feedback they've received. The original OXI ONE dates from 2021, and considering the time elapsed, the hardware has evolved significantly. MKII represents the 2025 version of OXI ONE, with carefully considered UI evolution reflected throughout.

About the Original OXI ONE

OXI ONE photo

That said, does this mean the original OXI ONE is no longer useful? Not at all. First, according to the official Discord — sourced from an FAQ response — they plan to update the original OXI ONE's firmware alongside MKII updates as far as the hardware performance allows.

In my speculation as a developer (Takazudo), the microcontroller running the software — essentially what would be the OS on a computer — is likely the same for both the original and MKII. If so, it seems likely that updates will continue for the original OXI ONE, with the only limitation being features that require the newly added buttons on MKII.

And from my experience actually using OXI ONE, while MKII's hardware performance has improved, I'd imagine virtually no one has experienced performance bottlenecks with the original. Maybe someone creating massive numbers of MIDI sequences might have encountered issues, but I've regularly used all 4 parts with drums, multiple sequence lines, full use of the harmonizer function, and maxed out CV and Gate usage — and I've never experienced a freeze or felt any delay. So regarding MKII's performance improvements, think of it as More is MORE — more is always better.

MKII as a Second OXI ONE

For those thinking "But I just bought an OXI ONE recently" or "I already own one," what I personally recommend is MKII as a second OXI ONE. I use two OXI ONEs myself, and having two provides considerable expandability.

For modular synth users, this goes without saying perhaps, but when attempting any kind of live performance, in the modular world it's normal to assemble as many sequences, switches, and CV controls as you want in your own preferred way. From that perspective, OXI ONE is simply one sequencer, and having two to operate independently is perfectly useful.

For example, you could run drum sequences continuously on one while running 2-3 melody sequences on the other. Conversely, trying to do all of this on a single OXI ONE would require rapidly switching between parts while operating.

In the modular synth context, buying another one with the mindset of "adding one more sequencer" is, I'd say from my experience using two, a viable possibility.

I realize suggesting two units in a product introduction might seem unusual, but anyway, for those looking for a great sequencer, I believe OXI ONE MKII will continue to spread as a strong contender going forward.
